Week 09, Week 10, and a Quarters End

As our story comes to a close for this quarter we look back on the final two weeks of pre-production. What a crazy time they were. Two weeks full of constant stress and deadlines. Let's take a walk down memory lane because Kate is writing this a week after the quarter ended.

First off, we now have an Instagram @themandrakefilm. Go follow it its where you will be able to see more art-related content. Also, we now have a poster for the MANDRAKE!

IT'S OFFICIAL the Mandrake coming May 2020.

Week nine, we took no pictures at the Sunday meeting but I promise it was super cute! Everyone brought extra Halloween candy and Kate brought cuties (small oranges). We watched another iteration of the animatic because plot-twist, we are not actually done with the animatic. We are still trying to fix the story and flow of the film. Which is perfectly fine schedule-wise but it is a little unnerving because we started layout and the layout is directly linked to the animatic.

Monday's class we workshopped the animatic and talked about expectations for the final week of class. Which is actually at this point close to done, but not yet. Quincy wants to go in and fix up some of the camera angles and transitions.

Wednesday's class, we further talked about getting a professional composer and foley artist for the film. This has been something we have talked about throughout the entire quarter but never solidified anything. Over winter break we hope too send the animatic out to some SCAD students and professional musicians and see who is interested in helping us out. Prof. Tessier suggested one group that's local to Savannah, their music is great!

Throughout this week we were also assigning layouts for the crew to do a rough pass at. We have around 87 layouts. Which is a lot, and we aren't going to be able to finish them this quarter. Some of the work is going to be pushed to Winter Break and production quarter. Hopefully, it goes smoothly because we don't have time to waste creating and painting 80 layouts. Layout is hard, and our crew is exhausted because of finals.

We also talked about expectations for winter break and the need to keep up production quality. We had so much energy at the beginning of the quarter but towards the end felt quite burnt out. Next quarter, we hope to find a better balance with animation.

Please enjoy these renditions of the baby. It was a long week.

Let's jump to week 10 Wednesday because between week 9 wednesday- then was just a lot. No pictures were taken and we were so stressed and trying to survive finals no one looked cute. Week 10 Wednesday was our last day of class for the quarter. Highlight: we have a finished-ish animatic. More then likely it will be tweaked but we are happy with the final product.

Week 10 Wednesday was the best because we had a class-wide potluck. Our class has another film working alongside us called Half-Full. Together we make Big Jug Productions but separately we are creating two films. Its been so helpful having their support the entire quarter.

Gaby, Jenna, and Quincy enjoying some of the food. Little did we know more food was coming and we were already full. Featuring Ethan from the film Half-Full.

The fanciest part of our potluck was this cheese platter, it really paired well with the Gogurt and brownies.

So much food.

Gaby feeding Jenna some grapes.

During this class we saw the final animatic for the Mandrake and Half Full, it was so amazing to see our hard work pay off at the end. We also went outside and took class pictures.
I present to you our crazy crew, always laughing and having a great time
Mega special thanks fo our leader Prof. Tessier. Thank you for giving us the space to create a film and allowing us to make mistakes along the way. We appreciate that you always pushed us in the right direction when we got lost and cheering us on when we got stressed and discouraged. We value your wisdom and mom vibes.

Special thanks to everyone that has worked on and helped the film so far. Our film would be nothing without the constant support and feedback from all of our friends, the full Half-full team, and professors.

Thanks to the entire Mandrake crew, I cannot believe we became such a cute, mildly dysfunctional family in such a short amount of time. This might be the end of pre-production but is only the beginning of the creation of this film.

See you in 2020.
