Week 04 is finally coming to a close and we are so close to midterms!
The week started off with our weekly Sunday meeting. After doing the voiceover pitch of our storyboards we noticed that our story is super long and also has some plot holes. During the meeting, we tried to continue to cut portions of the film that don't add to the overall plot and economize the montage shots we have to create a better flow. We also had a check-in visdev meeting which went so well because our visdev team is KILLING IT. More importantly- we went to Panera for lunch because crew bonding= important. Going to Panera further solidified that we need to actually go on a field trip. Like soon.
Here is our producer Kate modeling with the notes she did not actually take. Classic. |
Monday rolled around and we felt semi-confident about the edits we made. Then James (Prof. Tessiers friend from Disney) sent us about 8 pages of notes and we were like "wow we have so much to learn." These notes were incredibly helpful and made us feel more confident we were headed in the right direction. We took a lot of his advice and ended up cutting scenes that we thought were cool but didn't really add much to the film. Slowly moving more and more away from a 8-minute film. Which. Is. Fantastic.

James and Piccolo |
Wednesday was the big day- James FaceTiming into our class and sprinkling us with all the knowledge. It was such a helpful meeting. We talked about shows and films James worked on and he offered us the outside opinion we desperately needed to make our film great. We also were able to get his opinions about the new edits we have made. Overall from this meeting, we cut locations like the bird sanctuary, the greenhouse, and the market stall.
Thanks, James for your incredible feedback, old movie references, spoiling the ending of Spider-verse, and owning such cute dogs.
Finally special thanks to James' dogs Piccolo and Oliver, who graced our presence in the video chat. They are precious little beans and the whole class cried a little when James introduced us.
After the meeting, we took this time to make even more of edits to our film. The notes from the meeting made us so excited to change up our film. We were able to breath new life into something we already thought was pretty good. So thankful that after 4 weeks our crew is still so motivated and determined- no spirits are broken and everyone is filled with such passion.
While trying to reimagine some of or scenes we decided to act out some of them out see what actions were the most natural. Thankfully we found the one table cloth that exists in Monty- it just so happens to be purple. Note: the purple tablecloth represents the "witch badger" character in our film.
Thus creating the Mandrake: the live action.
Jane as the witch trying to be all spoopy and scary while Quincy as Herman with backpack Mandrake. |
Quincy as the witch with the post-it note sigil. Notice the Half-Full crew judging us real hard. They laughed, we laughed- everything turned out okay. |
